Mason Smith: Texas Tech Swing Dance Team

         Loud music, laughter and a sense of family as you walk into room C114 at the Texas Tech University Rec Center. That is what senior swing dance club leader Mason Smith wants his club members to feel as they walk into swing dance classes.   Started back in 2023 by Smith, the club began as a way to create a community for those that were into swing dancing. The club has since been featured on several different stories on local news and they have competed in dance competitions not only in Lubbock, but in different cities around Texas.   To truly begin the story of the Texas Tech Country Swing Club, we must look at where it all started.  Texas Tech Country Swing Dance Competition For the first time, the Texas Tech Country Swing Dance Club will be having a traveling team and will be hosting a country swing dance competition at Rodeo 4 on October 24. The competition is open to the public and will start at 9:00 P.M.   Mason Smith is the head instructor of the swing dance team, says that he began the swing dance team because of how much he enjoyed competing in high school.   “I got into it in high school,” Smith said, “I joined our country performance dance team as a joke, and it turned out I really liked it, so when I got to college, and there were no country swing dancers here, that is when I started the club.”   The Texas Tech Swing Dance Club was founded by Mason Smith in the fall of 2023 and has grown in numbers and team members.   “I did not think it was going to work.” Smith said, “after a few classes, things went well; it started to grow and confidence rose, awareness rose, and it started t...

Texas Tech's New Football Renovations

Texas Tech New Football Renovations       Texas Tech athletics kicked off its 100th football season with unveiling a 200-million-dollar renovation. The renovation includes the return of the iconic Raider Walk to its original location, honoring the team’s rich history while giving fans a new game-day experience.      The new $220 million south endzone at Jones AT&T Stadium, with two jumbotrons and field-level seating, will debut for the team's seven home games. The team will also enter the game from an entrance through the middle of the field.        The stadium will also be part of a new football training facility and weight room to update the facility to that of other Division 1, power 5 schools in the country.        According to the Texas Tech athletics website, the south endzone was just a part of the new football facility that the Texas Tech football team will use this season.      A new...
