Texas Tech's New Football Renovations
Texas Tech New Football Renovations
Texas Tech athletics kicked off its 100th football season with unveiling a 200-million-dollar renovation. The renovation includes the return of the iconic Raider Walk to its original location, honoring the team’s rich history while giving fans a new game-day experience.
The new $220 million south endzone at Jones AT&T Stadium, with two jumbotrons and field-level seating, will debut for the team's seven home games. The team will also enter the game from an entrance through the middle of the field.
The stadium will also be part of a new football training facility and weight room to update the facility to that of other Division 1, power 5 schools in the country.
According to the Texas Tech athletics website, the south endzone was just a part of the new football facility that the Texas Tech football team will use this season.
A new football facility would take time and with the stadium being such a big part of campus life for students and the community, Tech wanted to build the new facility as soon as possible.
According to the Texas Tech athletics webpage, The Womble Football Center, a state-of-the-art football training facility, would begin being built as soon as the 2022 season was finished, and the construction would only affect the 2023 season.
Built where the old facility stood, the Womble was originally set to take about 36 months to construct, but with Chris Huckabee's push, the job was completed in just 21 months.
Three new entrance gates on the stadium's south side allow fans easier access to the concourse. One of the best game-day features is the return of the Raider walk to its original location.
The team will walk through the street before entering the locker room about two hours before kickoff for each home game.
According to the Texas Tech athletics webpage, the Red Raiders will have seven home games this season. The new stadium and amenities will be on display later this month against Baylor and two more games in November.
